Patek Philipe sells for $24 million

The Henry Graves Supercomplication timepiece, made by the luxury watchmaker Patek Philippe in 1933 for the prominent banker Henry Graves, was sold at Sotheby's in Switzerland.
The sale smashed the world record for the most expensive watch ever sold at auction, which was previously held by the same watch. In 1999, it was sold to Sheikh Saud Bin Mohammed Bin Ali Al-Thani of the Qatari royal family, for $11 million.
    Holy cow, 24 million bucks

    Wowser... think they'll do lay-a-way?

ETA: Okay, it sold for that. Real money. I'd love to know what the buyer did for a living (and deal myself in for a small percentage of their income!). I wonder if they'll carry it? Or even wind it?

Even a broken watch shows correct time once or twice a day. I ought to know, I have a few!

I'm amazed at their attention to detail on some of these watches.

That's a cool video and the watch suddenly looks like a bargain at 2.5 mil.

Word on the street is Patek themselves bought it for their museum. They are going to have to sell a lot of Calatrava's to cover that

The last owner bought it in 1999 from Sotheby's for 11 million, so that was a decent investment.

In an interesting turn of events, The Sheikh who owns it died one day before the auction:

Yet another sign that we shouldn't be selling our watches.

He never actually paid for it did he?

I hope Patek bought it, that needs to be on public display.
