I've never owned a dog until 1 1/2 years ago. I never got it. I love my dog more than anything. And is it wrong that I like him more than say 99% of people?

He's smarter than most people too. So I guess that helps. He's ridiculously smart but I guess it's the breed.

My dog is kinda dumb

Some of the best ones are. We had a Rottweiler several years ago that was painfully stupid. He was a great dog, but dumb as a stump. And he'd eat anything. I mean anything. We'd usually find out the identity of his latest snack when it reappeared through one end or the other. He ate enough rocks once to gravel the driveway. Those he puked out into the back of my car.

He ate a rope once. It was some kind of flat nylon cord. He couldn't digest it but it didn't seem to upset his stomach either. So it's reappearance came via the end with the tail. It reappeared reluctantly too. He squatted and squeezed. A few inches appeared. He squeezed harder. A few more inches. He must have thought he was done because he started to walk away. The cord bumped against the backs of his legs. I guessed it scared him because he took off across the yard like the hounds of hell were on his tail instead of half a foot of yellow cord. A few more squats and grunts and pushes and he had enough cord trailing behind him to interest the cats. Who started chasing it. So my husband and I are chasing the dog along with both cats. The dog is terrified, making these awful whimpering, howling noises that no self-respecting 120 lb Rottie should make. The cord has grown to several feet and it picking up yard debris at an alarming rate. The neighbors are standing in the front yard pointing and laughing.

And all I can think is what if that damned cord has a knot in it somewhere.

Finally Jake raced past me and I accidently stepped on one of the trailing pieces. The dog kept going. The rope didn't. All ten feet of it whipped out of the back of that dog with accompanied by the most amazing stench I've ever smelled..

Thank goodness there wasn't a knot after all. We'd have turned the poor guy inside out. Starting at his butt hole.

P.S. No dogs were harmed in the telling of this story. We were just trying to catch him to take him to vet to have the damned thing removed. Everything else just kinda happened.
