I seriously doubt they will wear faster. Go custom, you won't go back.

I guess this is sort of what I was going for. I have a 20mm Hirsch Liberty and a 24mm one, but not a 22mm. I don't know why I do this. Every time I get a new strap, I think "I'll get something cheaper than a Liberty", then I don't like it as much, and it ends up costing me more money.

The strap isn't that orange though, is it?

Can't help thinking that *would* look nice on a rally, eg

This wasn't expensive, trying to remember where I got it :-)

I'm sure they can be had for very cheap, though that's no help if you have zero money.

I've never even heard of a custom strap under $100. Even when I had money, I never spent that much on a strap that wasn't made out of metal (1171 for my Speedmaster).

All my handmade or custom straps are under $100. Cloverstraps makes fantastic straps and they generally range from $50-$65 ($65 being a bund). Martu is my go to when I am looking for straps. They have all been great quality and look and feel great. I generally pay $35-$45 for those. http://www.martuleather.com/

Iyonk or cadstraps may be able to do you something for less than that.

The most I've spent on a strap was £65 for a Hirsch Regent alligator, the cordovan on my Strela is a Rios for £35.
From memory, the tan rally above was £20ish from Sectime (not listed now)

You *can* get great straps for not many £$€, it just needs a bit more searching :-)
