Moviebox/Showbox

I was directed to this by a friend.
Moviebox on I pad and Showbox on my Samsung tablet.
Essentially free movies and TV to stream or download.
Admittedly the ipad version didn't work last time I tried but Showbox is working fine tonight.
I have no particular qualms about downloading stuff particularly as the cinema shut down here in September.
I just was interested in how something like this is funded as I can't see a revenue to pay for the site.
Any thoughts on this?

I am not sure about the legality of those sites, but assuming they are legal, it would be monetized through either an ad or a subscription model.

If not legal, then ads, spyware, collecting information on users and selling it to third parties etc.

I would assume the one on the iPad is legal, because Apple is very particular about who they allow into their walled garden.

I seem to be sent round and round in circles following "tutorials" on how to do it but not actually downloading anything
