The Automatisk is an evolution of Richardt Mejer’s unique design aesthetic, one that began with the brand’s excellent Signature line. Measuring 38.5mm across, the angular case of the Automatisk is tempered by its size, resulting in a watch that’s actually quite versatile on the wrist. The case finishing is brushed all over, giving the watch a cool, almost tool-like aesthetic, while at the same time remaining elegant enough to work with a suit.

The Automatisk’s layered “bullseye” dial features two layers: a lower portion finished with a matte surface, and an upper level with a fine sunray finish. Stair-shaped markers with Super-LumiNova are applied at 12, 3, 6, and 9:00, and further contribute to the visual dimensionality of the dial. There are four dial colors to choose from: Stone, Moss, Plum, and the latest addition to the lineup, Dark.*The Dark variant *features matte surfaces for both the lower and upper levels of the dial, and it’s housed in a cool gunmetal case. Yellow is the accent color of choice here, and it’s featured on the text and Super-LumiNova.

Powering the watch is a Swiss-made STP1-11 automatic movement, a caliber that’s been adopted by numerous smaller brands in the industry. It hacks, hand-winds, has a beat rate of 28,800 vph, 26 jewels, and a power reserve of 44 hours.

A NEW INTEGRATED CHRONOGRAPH BY DUBOIS DÉPRAZ

Some months back, Europastar reported that the Vallée de Joux-based movement manufacture Dubois Dépraz had developed an integrated, column wheel chronograph movement that it would make available to its clients. It’s not everyday that a new chronograph movement hits the market, and this one, with it’s high-end design and unique feature set (it’s a flyback with a stacked sub-dial at 3:00 and PR indicator at 6:00) is genuinely exciting. DD also developed an interesting annual calendar module that’s worthy of note.*

The occasional summer shower is more or less inevitable, so having a truly lightweight shell that you can carry with you is invaluable. Uniqlo’s pocketable parka is just that. It’s super thin and light, made from a fine ripstop polyester fabric, and it can be bunched up in a bag without taking up any significant space. It won’t save you from a monsoon, but it should easily stand up to a light shower.
